NOT A FUCKING PLUMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!

And now? The toilet is busted.

Fucking float ball broke right off the float rod. Just snapped fucking off. So, I have to replace the WHOLE freaking float/rod assembly.

It should be pretty easy, but of course, as usual, this fucking happens when I cannot go out and get parts. Usually evenings, this time, it's a holiday. Happy Fucking Independence Day!

I want Independence from plumbing problems. This would be the fifth major plumbing repair I've done in five years.

Well, time to go see if it can be ghetto rigged with some wire for the moment. Fucking toilet.

I AM NOT A FUCKING PLUMBER! DO YOU HEAR ME, UNIVERSE!

So...any suggestions for GOOD fireworks?

I haven't been to a Fireworks display in EONS....
and, I loathe the very idea of getting stuck in that Lenox Crowd.

Is there any place else that might be worth the hassle?

Thanks!

Miracles *do* exist!

Here I am at my parents' lake house, after an absolutely flawless day with the airlines. When was the last time anyone used "flawless" and "airlines" in the same sentence? But it was - sure, the two planes I was on were both packed to capacity, but they were on time and got me here without any monkey business.

And as you can see, I got my laptop's wireless connection re-established. It got wiped out with the rest of the hard drive that crashed, and tonight my dad had to download the driver for me so I could re-install it. Everything's working now, so I won't miss the Doctor Who finale on Saturday.

Tomorrow is the big July 4 gathering. My sister and her family are coming, as are my aunt and uncle, and also my sister's in-laws, who I haven't seen since the wedding 12 years ago. I have little doubt that Leyna will love being the center of attention.

Hmmmmm...

I'm not sure....
But I think it's possible that my cat *may* need glasses.

What do you think? )

Friday Five -- July 4, 2008

This week's questions were suggested by [info]pageless.

1. What drink wakes you up best in the morning?
2. During the day, what do you drink to keep going?
3. Do you drink the recommended 8 glasses of water per day? Why/why not?
4. What are the ingredients of your favorite mixed drink? (Doesn't have to be alcoholic!)
5. Are you a coffee drinker? How do you take your coffee, if so?

Copy and paste to your own journal, then reply to this post with a link to your answers.

Photography Courses

Does anyone know of good places to do Photography Courses at? I work M-F 8:30-5:30, and would like to find something at night or weekends or something.

canvassing

I've lived in this apartment for about five years now, and somehow I've managed to avoid any appearance by any politician or petition or anything of the sort. Until this week.

A few days ago, a kid from Jim Martin's US Senate campaign* stopped by. He seemed completely taken aback and confused when I told him I was already planning on voting for his guy in the primary (in two weeks, by the way - and early voting starts Monday). After stammering a bit, he asked about volunteering (no can do) or donating (no way can do), and that was that.

Just a few minutes ago, two kids stopped by from the Human Rights Campaign. A tall, lanky black guy in khakis and a golf shirt and a cute little hippie girl who looked like not a few girls I went to college with. "Ah, yes," I said. "It's that time of year, isn't it?" I have no problems with the HRC (just with HRC), but I don't have any money for them, either. That threw off the guy, but Hippie Girl was undeterred. After some blah blah about yet another bill before Congress (couldn't tell you which one, and does it really matter?), I signed their mailing list thing and yet again pled poverty on the money.

I also suggested they come back when there are more cars in the lot. The rundown of tenants in this building: two straight guys, one gay guy, and three lesbians. Oh, and three cats and two Jack Russells. Plus any number of chipmunks and squirrels, at least one rabbit, and several hundred thousand mosquitoes.

I have yet to see any local candidates for anything. I see state Senator Nan Orrock's signs all around the neighborhood, but not here. There might be some confusion about which state House district this block is in -- my voting card says District 58 (Robbin Shipp), but around the corner along the park the homes all have Margaret Kaiser (District 59) signs. Last week's Creative Loafing had an article about the US House District 5 race that mentioned how John Lewis was just down the road in East Atlanta Village -- at the Earl, no less! -- but I never saw him. I have no idea who my Atlanta City Council rep is. Or school board. And only a vague idea about who to vote for for county sheriff (not the guy "running" things now).

This will be my fourth election cycle here (2004, 2005, 2006, 2008), and only in the last few days have I seen anybody other than kids selling magazines or people assuming I'm the building manager and can they have a rent application?

This election might be even more interesting than I thought.

* Martin's logo looks awfully similar to someone else's, no?

i work at 11th and west peachtree, and usually take the 10th street exit coming from the south to get there.

im also curious whether or not we'll be busy tomorrow for the race, as well as sunday for the parade. anybody know how foot traffic is around midtown, and are people out and about eating and drinking?

Tickets - Boys Like Girls w/ special guest Metro Station??

My daughter is looking for one ticket to this concert tomorrow @ Rocketown.  There was a major miscommunication and the tickets didn't get purchased.  If ANYONE has an extra ticket for sale, at all, please email me:

spiritualrose @ comcast . net (remove the spaces)

The concert is Saturday night - doors open @ 6:30.

Also, does anyone know if they allow folks to sell their tickets outside of Rocketown?

does drool count as mouth lube?

I just witnessed two guys pushing a wheelchair with Stephen Hawking in a tie-dyed shirt into my good neighbor Flex, Atlanta's only gay bath house. They were all smiles...and grimaces.

Wait till they see the steps, heh heh

yes folks, its Pride weekend in the ATL...

Assuming Barack and Oprah don't count...

As inspired by Hancock, here is my PopSmart post that explores the question, Who is the best black superhero?

I'm sure I left some out.

Joy

Joy is a co-worker not scheduled to be at my location today, spontaneously showing up and giving me a cup full of chocolaty-cheesecake and strawberry goodness. HOMEMADE chocolaty-cheesecake and strawberry goodness.

And here, I was planning on having a scoop of Phish Food ice cream, later. Don't need it now!

Tinker, Tailor....

Does anyone have suggestions for a good tailor, preferably downtown or West End areas? Nothing major, just some slacks that need hemming.
